Aishwarya Children Home- Kathmandu
Brief description
Aishwarya Children Home is situated in Baluwatar, Kathmandu. The project is a recognised orphanage working within the welfare sector to care for orphaned children collected from different part of Nepal. There is committee of 9 members to achieve the missions and run the orphanage. The committee is responsible for the logistics support and other funding process.
Main aims and Activities
Aishwarya Children Home currently cares 42 children by providing them food, shelter and help with their education. There are 5 members of staff working at the orphanage to take care of the children.
Volunteer tasks & Role
- Help the children to get ready for school. Help with the children’s lessons and homework
- Help at meal times, serve food or be with them while eating so that they can feel family environment.
- Organise and run extra activities and games with children
- Teach health and sanitation
- Go for sight seeing, picnic, zoo with kids and educational visits, cultural visits and sharing.
- Teach to draw and paint
Working hours are from 7:00 to 9:30 in the morning and from 4:00 to 7:00 in the evening for 6 days per week.
Volunteer skills

Volunteers should have patience and be interested in working with children.
- Motivation to learn Nepali language.
- Volunteers should be over 18 years.
Location
The project is situated in Baluwatar, Kathmandu about a 10 minute walk from the city centre, where there is phone/internet access and medical services. The nearest bus station is 5 minutes walk and the nearest hospital is 20 minutes drive. Thamel is in 30 minutes walk from the center.

Accomodation
It is a residential project. Volunteers stay in the project but they will have their own room Indoor plumbing facility and electricity is available. Volunteers will use shower and bathroom facilities with project staffs.
Food
Volunteers will get three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Normally you eat rice, lentil soup and curry for lunch and dinner and bread and tea for breakfast.

What to bring!
Camera, mobile phone (you can use mobile phone after changing sim card), sleeping bag, mosquito repellents, insect repellents, sun-block, map of nepal, toiletries, first aid kit, flash light, electricity adopter/converter, sun glasses, footwear for work and travel, towel, etc.
Volunteers can join this project on the 1st of every month (this date can be flexible so we also can change it as per the situation) except mid October to mid November because there is a month Holyday due to the greatest festival Dashain and Tihar.
Weather /Clothes:
From April - September only light clothes, preferably cotton, are needed in Kathmandu. Avoid synthetic fibres which irritate the skin.
From mid-September to March, light clothing is fine in the Kathmandu Valley. For evenings and early mornings, a heavy woollen sweater or a paded anorak or jacket will be needed. |
