Gauriganja Health Post- Chitwan
Note: Volunteers are required to pay monthly donation of USD 100 per month directly to the project.
Brief description
Gauriganj Health post is a community-based small hospital located in the village where the patient from community will take simple treatment and health suggestion. Patients will be referred to the district hospital in case of major health problem. The health post has a health assistant and some other co-workers. It provides general medical treatment to the local people.
Main aims and Activities
Gauriganja Health Post provides medical care to people from the local community and surrounding area. There are 5 staffs working at the health post.
Volunteer tasks & Role
As a volunteer in health post, volunteers will have following responsibilities:
- To help Health Assistant and support him in treatment like fever, cold cough diarrhea etc.
- Taking blood pressure.
- Checking body temperature and dressing
- Counseling on transmitted disease and family planning
- First Aid Treatment
- Pharmacy service ( Distributing medicine)
- Health and sanitation
- Vaccination
Working hours varies depending on the duties volunteers are allocated, and will be for 6 hours per day.
Volunteer skills
You must be either a Registered Nurse or a Doctor to join this project. It is really important to have all medical papers before finalizing the project.
Location
This health post is located in the rural area of Bharatpur Municipality. It is 150 km south from Kathmandu. It is 25 minutes travel to nearest major town- Narayangadh. There is also internet/phone access and public transport within 25 minutes walk.
Duration
- Minimum 4 weeks
- Maximum 16 weeks
Accomodation
With the host family, indoor plumbing and electricity available, you will have your own private room but share the facilities with the family members.
Food
Volunteers will get three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Normally you eat rice, lentil soup and curry for lunch and dinner and bread and tea for breakfast.

What to bring!
Camera, Mobile phone (you can use mobile phone after changing sim card), Sleeping bag, Mosquito repellents, Insect repellents, Sun-block, Map of Nepal, Toiletries, First aid kit, Flash light, Electricity adopter/converter, Sun glasses, Footwear (for work and travel), Towel, etc.
Volunteers can join this project on the 1st of every month (this date can be flexible so we also can change it as per the situation) except mid October to mid November because there is a month Holyday due to the greatest festival Dashain and Tihar.
Weather /Clothes:
From mid-September to March, light clothing is fine in the Kathmandu Valley. For evenings and early mornings, a heavy woollen sweater or a paded anorak or jacket will be needed.
From April - September only light clothes, preferably cotton, are needed in Kathmandu. Avoid synthetic fibres which irritate the skin. |
