Brief description
Shree Apanga Asahaya Sewa Sanga is a recognized orphanage working in the children welfare sector. The orphanage is located in Satungal-09, Kathmandu. Though it is not far from the city, the place is quite peaceful. There are all together 2 persons to care of them.
Main aims and Activities
This orphanage aims to offer home, education, and love for orphan kids. Currently, home hosts 14 orphans aged between 5 to 13. This project offers you opportunities to serve the most destitute kids of Nepal. You will share your love, passion, and hard works to make a difference in the life of children who are deprived of parents’ love and support. In your free time, you can explore local villages and near by areas. Your help will be highly appreciated by children.
Volunteer tasks & Role
Generally volunteers will work 07:00-09:00 in the morning and 03:00-06:00 in the evening. You help them to complete homework, to stay clean, to play game, to sing song, to make beds. You can organize any creative activities like games, story telling etc. After breakfast, you will take kids to local school.
You can take a full day off any day except Saturdays as the kids stay in the orphanage for whole day. Some additional responsibilities:
- Go for sight seeing, picnic, zoo with kids
- Educational visit, cultural visit and sharing
- Sanitation of rooms Washing clothes
- Drawing pictures
- Knitting and weaving torn clothes of kids
Above are sample activities where local host expects the help of volunteers.
Volunteer skills
- Good communication skills and command of English.
- Creative skills and motivation to teach and play with children are important.
Location
- 10 minutes walk to Satungal from the project. The project is located 15 minutes drive and 10 minutes walk from your home base. Home base is located in Kalanki and it is 45 to 50 minutes walk to the project.
- 10 minutes walk to Satungal. Satungal is a local mini city of the area. Accordingly, you can take a local bus from Kalanki Temple which is 5 minutes in walking distance (to go to the project)
- 10 minutes walk to Satungal. There are some internet cafes available.
- 10 minutes walk to Samaj Hospital which is in Satungal.
Duration
- From 2 (minumum) to 16 weeks (maximum).
Accomodation
The project has its own residential area,where you have to stay.
Food
Three meals per day are available(lunch ,dinner and snacks).
Additional Info
Gifts are not needed but If you want to bring gifts for your project (and if you are working for orphanage or school please bring toys, books, pencils, music CD, color pens, chocolates, and games). If you want to bring gifts for your host family, please bring chocolate, photos of your family, music CD's, T shirt (showing flag or important symbol) of your home country. |
