Volunteer Program (2-12 weeks)

NCYE-Nepal offers short term volunteering opportunities for participants having not sufficient time to join the exchange program. Our volunteer program allows volunteers to enrich their volunteering and cultural experience in the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal. Becoming a volunteer in Nepal will provide you with rewarding opportunities as you assist that in need - and these experiences will forever change your perceptions of the world.
Presently volunteer placements are available in the following areas.
Teaching English
Teaching project in Nepal offer opportunities for ICYE volunteers to teach English to the school children. Most of the time, volunteers in the teaching sector work as instructors of elementary and secondary school children. Volunteers also need to support school activities like games, painting, sanitation programs, etc. A volunteer teaches 2-3 hours a day in six days a week. The age of the children ranges from 6-13 Years.

In Nepal, teaching placements are available in both public and private boarding schools. However, teaching placements are not available in July and August in any other areas outside of the Katmandu Valley because of summer vacation. NCYE-Nepal arranges teaching placements in the nearby villages of Katmandu Valley during July and August. Most of the time, volunteer uses a fixed English curriculum for English teaching. Volunteers will teach school courses in collaboration with local English teachers. Many of our past volunteers have also organized informal English classes in local villages.

Orphanage Project
Our orphanage project in Nepal allows you unrivalled insight into the intricate way of life of Nepali children and offers an opportunity to help orphaned and abandoned children who grew up in poor families or on the streets of Kathmandu, and youths who live under extreme poverty. In this orphanage volunteer project, volunteers teach basic English to the children, as well as playing games and leading creative activities like art, music, dance, sports, and handicrafts. Additional help with sanitation, cooking, and administrative work might be requested. Our volunteer in Nepal project puts you on the front line of one of the poorest areas in Nepal, allowing you to share your love with some of the most neglected children of Nepal. Nearly 75 percent of our past volunteers joined orphanage project in Nepal and described orphanage projects a truly life changing experience.
Health Projects
More than forty percent of the Nepalese people live below the poverty level. An overwhelmingly vast number of Nepali people live their lives without ever obtaining proper health care. Although the state established several health centers in Nepal to provide health services to people in rural areas, many health centers are running without an adequate number of trained staff. In health project in Nepal, volunteers can help and assist local doctors and medical staff while they treat patients. Also, volunteers can join other programs in the hospital, such as record keeping, sanitation, nutrition, or treatment of minor injuries. Volunteers interested in joining this program must have certificates or proof of experience in this field (for example, a medical student ID, and a certificate of graduation for a nurse or doctor.) Due to the health risks involved, volunteers who are not properly trained in health care cannot work in this area.
